Outline RA#2

1) The first ad is aimed towards a younger audience targeting specifically what looks to be middle school students.

a) We see this with the classroom setting

i) Includes the skeleton and the kid writing what appears to be notes

b) Also the image of the kids is animated and cartoonish with the giant heads

i) This also appeals to the younger audience because it draws their attention to the ad

ii) The color of the mentos also sticks out from the rest of the very neutral and darkened colors

c) The message of the ad also claims “it’s a puberty thing” with the mentos supposedly being what appears to be the kids first pimple on his face

2) The message of the ad was that the mentos bring excitement to your life

i) With the ad aimed at the middle school students puberty is an exciting time for them because they are finally growing up

ii) We see this as both the kids in the ad are staring at the mentos almost to be mezmorized by it in their boring class setting

iii) The viewer also notices the skeleton who looks to have his mouth open as well this is to show shock adding to the excitement factor the ad is trying to portray

3) The second ad targets an older audience specifically males

a) This ad uses the sex appeal of an attractive female to promote their mint style mentos

i) Suppose to show guys that mentos will help them get an attractive girl like this

ii) The picture of the girl catches the person’s attention and there is only a small mention of the mentos in the top corner

b) this ad is not as effective as the first

i) Didn’t know what the advertisement was trying to sell for awhile

ii) the girl does not stick out, blends in with the background

iii) the ad does not make much sense because people don’t typically eat mentos on a beach

4) conclusion:

a) Both ad’s are trying to accomplish the same task, to sell mentos to a targeted audience. The first ad targets the middle school age group and does a good job at getting it to catch the person’s attention. It also hits on a very exciting topic for middle schoolers which may also make them excited about the product. Also the way the ad brings out the mentos bright colors by making the background dark and neutral also catches the viewer’s attention. I also liked the way they used cartoons with the giant heads in the classroom setting as the audience is easily able to relate. The second ad was much less effective as the model they used blended in with the background and did not stick out. Also it is hard to find what the ad is trying to sell. The picture of the girl takes up way too much space and the mentos logo is fairly small in the top left corner. However it does relate to the audience as males are attracted to the beautiful girl in a swimsuit in the ad. It gives them the idea that if they buy the mentos these type of girls would like them.
