RA #2

http://www.stanford.edu/class/linguist34/advertisements/alcohol%20ads/index.htm

These two ads are alcohol ads for Skyy Vodka. They were published in various well known magazines such as Rolling Stone, Vogue, Glamour, ect. Both of these ads audiences are the younger aged drinkers which would be around 21-35. We see this by the bright colors shown in both pictures and also the kind of "fun" attitude shown in both.

In the first ad we should notice:
  • the bright colors
  • the "party" atmosphere
  • how the hands are reaching towards the lady showing "popularity"
  • The beauty in the lady
  • the black dress - looks slimming
  • and the empty glasses showing that everyone wants more of the Skyy Vodka
In the second ad we should notice:
  • the money
  • how much fun the couple is having
  • the bright colors
  • the black dress again
  • the guys almost empty glass
I chose these two ads because they looked like fun to analyze with there being very little words and mostly pictures it really makes the viewer try to decipher what it is going on. Also the bright colors of the ad really caught my eye as they are both very similar in many ways. The biggest difference to me is the audience, where as the first audience is more of the party crew showing that everyone wants the drink the second ad is more of a romantic, date night type of drink.

Post Secret Card

    • What was the secret? Did you convey it explicitly or implicitly?
      • OJ Simpson murdering his wife and her boyfriend, I conveyed the message implicitly because I did not come out and say who it was that I murdered or why.
    • What kinds of visual elements did you chose to include? What is their purpose?
      • I included the black glove of OJ’s trial because it was a big reason to why he was not charged with the murder. I also included the quote “if the glove don’t fit” to show the connection.
    • How did you manipulate the text (fonts, colors, size, positioning on the card)? Why?
      • I made everything black and white to play off the fact of a trial how they try to make everything clear with no gray area
    • How did you want to portray the persona you assumed?
      • I wanted to portray the post secret card as a mystery because that is what the case of OJ ended as a mystery once it was decided that there was not enough evidence.
    • How did you want to the viewer to feel about the secret?
      • I wanted the viewer of my card to question first of all who the person was but then to also think about the case and question the motives behind it.
